Twitter has recently launched a new page to track the FIFA world cup 2010 conversations. I found this out when I saw image of Brazilian flag with one of the world cup tweets.
That made me curious and i tried to find out the reason behind it. After some google, I found that twitter has launched a page to track and consolidate team conversations.
FIFA world cup; the biggest sporting event of the world has always been in news. This year, there are a total of 32 teams participating in this event.
Twitter world cup 2010 page has a list of all the 32 country’s flag at the top of the page which scrolls and gets highlighted as soon as you place your mouse over it. Just go to http://twitter.com/worldcup/ from there you can click on the flag of the nation you want to follow and read the dynamically scrolling conversations related to that team. You can also see the schedule of upcoming matches and the real-time conversation on the right.
Twitter has also defined the hash tags to group the conversations related to a particular team. Following is the list of hash tags given to each of the teams #arg #bra #chi #civ#cmr #den #eng #esp #fra #ger #gha #gre #hon #its #jpn #kor #mex #ned #nga #nzi #par #por #usa #WorldCup
Tweets with any of the above hash tags (e.g. #bra) will feature a small clickable flag as seen below
